Hope rises for Jegede, as S’Court orders A’Court to deliver judgment

There’s hope for Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, the candidate of the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State.
This is as the Supreme Court has ordered the Court of Appeal panel sitting in Abuja to go ahead with its proceedings.
It would be recalled that the Appeal Court panel had suspended the delivery of judgement in the appeals brought before it indefinitely after 10 motions were filed before the Supreme Court for stay of proceeding.
The Appellate court had also initially suspended hearing on the case based on a petition over the composition of the panel.

The appeals before the appellate court stemmed from the judgment of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, recognising Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim as the authentic candidate of the PDP for the election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which had earlier published the name of Eyitayo Jegede, a former Attorney General of the state, substituted him with Ibrahim on the strength of Justice Abang’s judgment.
The Supreme Court five-man panel, led by the Acting Chief Justice of the Federation, CJN, Justice Walter Onnonogen, said the Appeal Court panel should go ahead with its proceedings after the 10 motions before it for stay of proceeding were withdrawn by the counsel to the applicants, Beluolisa Nwofor, SAN.
With the Supreme Court order, the Court of Appeal can now deliver its judgement ahead of the Saturday election.
