Pogba scores as Manchester United thump Hull City to qualify for EFL final
Premier League giants Manchester
United have qualified for the final of the 2017 EFL Cup even after
losing 2-1 to Hull City in their second leg encounter on Thursday night
January 26, 2017.
United went
to this game with high hope of making it to the final after beating
their opponents 2-0 in the first leg tie thereby qualifying for the
final on 3-2 aggregate scoreline.
Hull City knew they would have to
cancel out the two goals scored by the Red Devils in the first tie for
any chance of making it to the final, and they started the match lively
as they completely mesmerized their visitors.
Tom Huddlestone scored the first
goal for the hosts in the 35th minutes, and Manchester United tried all
they could to restore parity as they went to the break with Hull City
leading.
French
midfielder Paul Pogba leveled up for Manchester United in the 66th
minutes, but Baye Oumar Niasse gave the hosts the lead again in the 85th
minutes.
Hull City desperately searched
for another goal at the death which would have sent the game to extra
time, but United held on firmly to pick the final ticket.
Manchester United will now face Southampton in the EFL final at the Wembley Stadium.
